Description

A soft pliable dough that's easy to work and bakes hard for long life.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 c salt
  • 7 oz boiling water
  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • small bowl of ‘joint’ water
  • podgy (matte or gloss)

Instructions

Supplies:
large bowl
dry & wet measuring cups
large spoon
plastic (zip) bag(s)
foil
rolling pin
knives
garlic press (for hair; fur; tree top...)
cookie sheet(s)
all metal paper clips
paint brushes
acrylic paints
fine (permanent) markers
Method:

Boil water. Measure salt into bowl. Add boiling water to salt. (Salt will only partially dissolve.) Cool slightly. Add flour, all at once, and knead until smooth and workable.

In some climates and altitudes, dough may require a little more water.  Add boiling water an extra teaspoon at a time. Knead well. Dough should be pliable, but not sticky.

Keep extra dough in plastic bag while working on projects. Use within 48 hours.

Working The Dough: Shape each project on a separate piece of foil. Transfer foil and work to cookie sheet for baking.

Joints: Use water to attach pieces to each other; then press together gently.

Hanger: Gently, push paper clip into top of work. Leave top edge of paper clip exposed.

Baking: Bake as soon as projects are complete, or keep in a zip bag until ready. Do Not attempt to air dry – the dough will crack and crumble. Bake projects at 300˚ for about an hour (depends on size and thickness). Dough is cooked when it is hard all over. Test by pressing thickest area. If there is any give, continue baking.

Finishing: Use acrylics to colour projects. Try fine markers for detailing. Dry completely. Apply Podgy. Dry completely.
